Twin City History
In 1961
Dewey A. Houston founded Twin City Knitting Company, Inc. He began by producing men’s argyle hosiery, but within two years he was asked to begin production of baseball stirrup hosiery. Another year later, Mr. Houston was exclusively in the sporting goods industry. Manufacturing has expanded over the years to include with the stirrup hose many other lines. The product line now includes a variety of socks for baseball, soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, tennis, golf, walking, jogging, running, as well as sanitary liners, tube socks, wristbands and headbands. Twin City has been an active member of the National Sporting Goods Association since 1967.
In 1974
Twin City received the Leadership Award for service of the highest order to the sporting goods industry and for the progress and welfare thereof.
In 1982
Twin City obtained the design patent for the 2 in 1 baseball socks.
In 1985
The Team Dealers of America named Twin City Supplier of the year.
In 1989
Mr. Houston was inducted into the Sporting Goods Hall of Fame.
In 1992
Twin City received the Manufacturers Appreciation Award presented by the Sporting Goods Agents Association for sustained contributions to the customers, performance, honesty and integrity.
In 1995
Mr. Houston sold Twin City to Mr. Francis B. Davis, Mr. Joseph E. Lamb and Mr. Paul M. Boyd. Mr. Davis, Mr. Lamb and Mr. Boyd worked under Mr. Houston’s leadership for many years and are committed to continuing in the same traditions which made Twin City a leader in the Sporting Goods Industry.
In 1997
Twin City acquired R & R Knitting Company, who had been contracted to knit exclusively for Twin City.
In 1996
Twin City acquired Whiting Hosiery Mill, which gave us the capabilities to manufacture hockey hose as well as expanding into many other product lines.
In 1997
Twin City purchased a finishing facility with the capabilities for expansion.
In 2006
Twin City became the exclusive licensee for Easton Sports.
In 2007
Twin City became the Official Supplier for Major League Baseball.
Today
Twin City has three plants manufacturing an expanded line of innovative, high tech, superior quality products.
